NIST published its first three completed standards from its post-quantum cryptography project on 13 August 2024. The specifications concern cryptographic tools designed to withstand attacks from a sufficiently capable quantum computer.
The agency said the standards were ready for use and encouraged system administrators to begin the transition. Publication of a standard, however, does not automatically update the software or protocols that depend on older methods.
