The Ethereum Foundation’s Protocol cluster has set out its priorities for preparing the base network for cryptography changes. Its stated aim is quantum resistance across execution, consensus and data by December 2029.
That date is a development goal. It does not establish when a sufficiently capable quantum computer will exist or prove that the planned work will finish on schedule. The document explicitly treats the timing of that threat as uncertain.
The priorities connect longer-term research with the choices being made for Hegotá. They also describe coordination across researchers and engineers. The document gives readers a way to distinguish the team’s intended direction from the features already available on Ethereum.
